Federica Zanet Wilhelm on destroying fashion

It started with a skull and a heart, and the question if destruction can ever be redemption.

Destruction is, after all, not just the physical breaking apart or physical annihilation.
It is also an intellectual dissection, a rearrangement of the mind, that allows us to see what is there, what is not, what is hidden.
It gives us possibilities: a heart becomes a handle to take us places, or a skull can accompany us visibly instead of hidden.
This search for possibilities is what I have seen in Francesca Romana Correale’s philosophy of fashion. It is possible that respect and beauty comes before economics; that beauty is built without unnecessary suffering. .
Her objects emanate the permanence and the fleeting, the humanity of us: we are, and then we are gone, not as if never was, but as if a shadow always stays in our place.
Destruction is intrinsic in our human nature. We carry the ruins of our passing, like a castle decayed; we see our losses and mourn in advance our departure. We regret to leave; we regret to stay.
This is what I’ve seen behind a bag: a woman who translates life in a product.
A woman whose love and respect for her work mirrors her love and respect for life.

Federica Zanet WilhelmFrancesca Romana Correale, founder and designer of Romana Correale, has begun a collaboration with five artists. The rules for the creative process were simple: ”Destroy one of my bags.” and ”No sex.”.

Here follows the poetic interpretation by Federica Zane Wilhelm, in her own words;

It is possible that respect and beauty comes before economics; that beauty is built without unnecessary suffering. .

Fur designed by Romana Correale photos by Carla Mantilla in Stockholm

When ever I design something with the only pourpouse of making Myself happy I usually reach the climax.

Maybe its because i don’t think “Price”, “Sales”, “market”. I only think beauty. What I would love to see and how.

Like allways and in everything I do the must important part of the game is played by proportions.

I keep in Loving more and more this fur and many woman tell me they love but just can’t really say why…

Its a game of lenghts, of shades, of colors.

I’ll share some photos of my creation. Hope you all Will enjoy!

Destroy One of my bags. Artist: Arman Sultani

Not every artist that was asked for a collaboration in this project “destroy my bag” has accepted to partceipate.

The reazons may allways be different and deeper or more superficial amongst Each individual.

Beign an anarchic lover of freedom the acceptance of the “no thanks” which ever the reazon used was as happy as the “yes of course”.

Each one of us… As artists and adults… Are livig in different moments in our path towards the future.

This was and is a mission. A statement. Something to partecipate in only if deeply felt. Thats why the negative responded were received as positively as the “yes, I want to”

Many artists were incredibly enthudiast and actually brought up the topic that this consumistic and superficial era is not only damaging fashion but truly is going deeply in all levels of social relating. Its the era of the “use and throw in the been”. Since the conscience is clean cause there is allways a recycling bin out there somewere.

It really, honestly, disgustes me.

Arman is another if the artists that with great passion and with a long series of conversations has been lively part of this project and has actually demostrated his serious concern on this “trend” on every stratification of life. From feelings to friendship to work to objects of common use.

This is his “opera d’arte” for our project.

Arman runs three different restaurants his main interests and passions are art, Wine and food.
